Creating a Gallery Post

Step 1

Collect Images

The images which appear in each Gallery post are provided by our walkers and riders who upload their images to our Proton Drive: Proton Drive/My files/Gallery Images

The images are sorted by the walkers into folders, by date.

Because there is no way to directly transfer image files from Proton Drive to Hostinger, it will be necessary to download the images to your own device, at least temporarily, in order to upload to the Gallery on Hostinger.

Step 2

Convert Images

For the most part, the images are downloaded in JPG format. However, on occasion, an image is downloaded in its native HEIC format.

Because Hostinger only accepts images in JPG or PNG format, it is necessary to convert any HEIC images to JPG.

If you do not have an app capable of making this conversion, an online app such as FreeConvert.com can do the job quickly and easily.

Step 3

Opening the Blog

Open the Hostinger dashboard by clicking the Profile icon in the upper-right corner of the Hostinger home page.


Find the womenswalkacrossamerica.com tab and click the Edit website button. This will open the Website Builder for the Women’s Walk Across America.

To the left of the screen you will find the main navigation panel.

Select the Blog menu option.

This, in turn, will open the Blog panel, displaying the collection of Blog (Gallery) posts that have been created, with the most recent at the top of the list.

For this reason, the easiest way to add a new post to the Gallery is to duplicate the most recent post.

Step 4

Duplicate post

Select the most recent post and click on the contextual menu (⠇).

Click on Duplicate. You should now have an identical entry just above the original.

Step 5

Change Post Settings

Choose the new entry that was duplicated and click anywhere on the Header (red) section. You should see a small pop-up menu near the right side of the screen.

Click on the pencil icon. This will open the Post settings window. Here, you can update the title, description, and date, relevant to the new post.

When you are satisfied that everything is correct, click the Save button.

Step 6

Update images

Directly below the Header section is the actual Gallery. Because we have duplicated the previous post, we must now replace the existing images with your new ones.

By clicking anywhere on the gallery item, a pop-up menu appears near the left side of the item.

Clicking the Change Image icon will open the Manage Gallery window. Here, you will have to delete each image individually before adding your new images.

Once the existing images have been deleted, you can add the new images by either dragging and dropping directly into the window or, by clicking the Add images button and uploading from your hard drive.

If prompted, add the images to the Walk Photos folder in the Media library. Inside the Walk Photos folder you will find subfolders for each day. Create a new folder and rename it to the date related to the post.

You will have to select all the images you wish to add and will have an opportunity to reorder the images in an effort to maintain chronological consistency.

Step 7

Update Character

The brand for the WWAA consisted originally of five women characters. Since then, a total of seventeen characters have been illustrated and more are planned through the rest of the event.

Select the character image and click the Change image icon. The Media library window appears. Select the Women folder and choose the illustration that comes next in the group. These continue to rotate with each post.

Update Data Card

Use the entries from the Route Progress page (Desktop version) to update this information — Departure and arrival points; total mileage; elevation; and weather conditions.

In addition, the map will need to be updated by using Google maps or Strava to show the route in question for the day. Either export the map as an image file or simply take a screen grab to provide an image for this part of the data card.

Select and replace the existing image with your new map and, if queried, select Open full screen preview.

Finally, return to the Change Post Settings and click the pencil icon.

Then, Choose Featured image from the the menu navigation and select Replace image.

Choose a compelling image from the images you just updated. Ensure the subject is as centred as possible in the frame.
