Frequently asked questions
Who is this for?
Cheeky answer: The girls, gays, and theys! Serious answer: The walk is in response to the attacks on women’s rights, and as such, centers women and all those who face gender-based oppression.
We welcome our cis-gendered male allies, but kindly suggest that they not come alone, but instead as a support person for a woman or gender non-conforming person in their lives. Be the person that makes it that little bit easier for them to participate. Basically, show us the women who trust you, and that will go a long way in building trust and comfort among those already on the walk.
I can only walk on specific dates, and they aren’t near your major relay points.
How do I find out exactly where you will be?
Answer: We keep route details published on the website to a minimum out of concern for the safety of those on the route. The best way to coordinate on this level is to fill out the Walker Form here to initiate communication with our route planning team. The route is a living thing, susceptible to delay and alteration from any number of factors, including weather.
I can’t walk, but I want to help! What can I do?
Answer: Vehicle support. Host a walker. Provide a meal. Donate. (unfinished)
What is your goal? What specific demands are being made?
Answer: View our participant declaration here. Help us solidify our demands here (link to Natalia’s efforts). (unfinished)
What are your views on _________?
Answer: Great question, with a complicated answer. Emily started this thing, and has some very strong views on any number of political topics, but she doesn’t claim to speak for everyone who participates in the Women’s Walk. We can tell you about our view on purity testing: it is destroying the left from the inside out. We have to be able to work together toward common goals, even with people who disagree with us on various other topics. If you support the basic tenants found here, we hope you’ll join us. If you want to know more about Emily’s personal views on a variety of political topics, some of those can be found here. (unfinished)
