A brutally hot day! The heat index listed on the National Weather Service lists 108 at the hottest point of the day! Thank goodness for two local women who volunteered to come out - one of whom was vehicle support (an air conditioned car is a glorious thing on a day like that!), and the other of whom tagged in for the walk in the afternoon, allowing Emily to rest and cool down.
Kim Kankiewicz said she was accustomed to the weather conditions, and proceeded to crank out over 7 miles in those scorching temps. D’Ette Peralta kept both walkers fed and well supplied with ice cold beverages. Together, they nearly met the day’s mileage goal, in spite of the heat. They finished the day having arrived in Lawrence, Kansas.
