Susan rode most of today’s 26.2 miles (a marathon!) from Clay Center, through Riley, stopping about 10 miles outside Manhattan. Marguerite rode a couple of the miles when Susan’s calf was protesting.
After riding past miles and miles and miles of corn fields, today I finally stopped and bonded with some corn for a few minutes. It is actually as high as an elephant’s eye.
We stopped for lunch at the Riley Cafe, which has the best coconut cream pie in the world. We ate some and bought more for later.
Tonight we are happy to be staying in a home, and having more real food, thanks to the generous hospitality of Merv and Cathy Coon Bitikofer.
The Flint Hills of Kansas are an unexpected (literal) pain in my rear.
